Setting The Mood

Aircraft manufacturers are looking to lighting systems that enhance the customer experience. Color changes during a flight are not random. Each color is meant to have a specific psychological effect on passengers—create a sense of calm, induce sleep, and gradually awaken, refresh and energize them.

In its quest to increase passenger well-being and satisfaction, Bruce Aerospace has spent years working with experts studying the effect of lighting on passengers. The development of its LED lighting products is rooted in its knowledge of lighting's role for influencing mood and enhancing circadian health.

High Output LED Technology…Providing Bruce with the competitive advantage

Bruce Aerospace LED cabin lighting systems employ the latest High Brightness (H.B.) LED technology, providing high level light output which equals or exceeds the light output levels of OEM fluorescent lighting systems. High quality H.B. LED technology provides several distinct advantages over lower output, plastic encapsulated LED-based lighting systems.

  • Extremely long usable lifespan
  • In excess of 50,000 hours of usage with no color shift or light output degradation
  • Close color matching
  • High thermal efficiency
  • High output levels
  • Bruce LED cabin lighting systems are FAA approved for use in the charging of Photo Luminescent Floor Proximity Emergency Escape Path Marking Systems (PL FPEEPM)

“Plug & Play” Cabin Retrofit Illumination

Bruce Aerospace takes pride in manufacturing the highest quality, longest lasting cabin lighting solutions in the industry—all with simple “Plug and Play” installation methodology for retrofitting existing fluorescent and incandescent systems with LED products.

All Bruce Aerospace LED cabin lighting systems employ luminaires that have been designed as true drop-in replacements for the existing OEM fluorescent luminaires, greatly simplifying installation:

  • Same form factor and attachment points
  • Same electrical connectors
  • Makes use of existing AC or DC lighting power distribution
  • Compatible with existing lighting control signals
  • STC or PMA certified lighting systems are available for the following aircraft: Boeing 737, 747 757, 767 and 777; Airbus A310, A319, A320, A321, A330, and A340
  • T5 LED drop-in replacements with SAAB Service Bulletin for SAAB 340/2000 aircraft and other regional aircraft

Full Color (Mood) Lighting

Bruce sets the standard for enhancing the cabin ambiance for passengers with Mood Lighting featuring XLUME High Brightness LED technology.

Bruce offers aircraft LED Mood Lighting retrofit solutions with options to use existing aircraft lighting controls or an optional Bruce Mood Lighting Controller, which offers up to 22 unique control buttons that can execute complex Scenarios with many different colors, timings and transitions.  Lighting colors and scenes are customer selected prior to installation and can be further modified by the customer after the initial installation using an intuitive Scenario development software application.

Bruce Aerospace Mood Lighting systems employ the latest High Brightness (H.B.) LED technology, providing high level light output which exceeds the light output levels of OEM fluorescent lighting systems. H.B. LED technology has several advantages over lower output, plastic encapsulated LED-based lighting systems:

  • Extremely long usable lifespan
  • A minimum of 60,000 hours of usage with no color shift or light output degradation
  • Close color matching
  • High thermal efficiency
  • High output and maximum color saturation
  • Colored light presentations are not washed out by ambient light during daytime operation

Bi-Color Lighting

Bi-color LED lighting provides some basic mood lighting capability without the need of an additional lighting control system

The bi-color system (white and one other color) can be programmed to execute unique color mix selections corresponding to each flight attendant panel switch position (bright, mid-dim, low-dim, for example). The transition times between settings are customizable. The ceiling lights are equipped with LED night lights that operate when the “night” position is selected.

When the cabin lighting is switched to the dim mode of operation the bi-color lighting system transitions to an alternative color. The customer can select from three color temperatures for the primary white lighting presentation (warm white, neutral white, or cool white) and a wide variety of color choices for the secondary lighting channel on bi-color systems including, royal blue, normal blue, and amber. Bi-color systems can also employ a mixed array of cool white and warm white LED emitters, providing a tunable white temperature lighting system.

White Only

The all-white LED system can be programmed to execute unique levels of illumination

This system can be set up with levels of illumination corresponding to each flight attendant panel switch position (bright, mid-dim, low-dim, for example). The transition times between settings are customizable. The ceiling lights are equipped with LED night lights that operate when the “night” position is selected. The customer can select from three color temperatures for the primary white lighting presentation (warm white, neutral white, or cool white).
